Grandma’s Gamblers Book Donations

I want to take a moment and ask for your help.  My Grandma Bulow passed away from a glioblastoma multiforme in June of 2013.  She was diagnosed right before I graduated 8th grade here at St. John’s.  Many of you knew my Grandma and she loved attending services here to see not only me, but also my friends as they grew through the years.  Grandma fought her battle with grace and relied on her faith in God to help her through the struggle.  When she would go to treatments she was always worried about the children and young adult with cancer and talked about “how scary it must be” for them.

In honor of her, we created Grandmas Gamblers. Please visit our facebook site, Grandmas Gamblers, or google Grandma’s Gamblers for more information and my grandma’s story.

We are collecting new and gently used books to donate to local hospitals.  We are hosting our 2nd annual book drive during the month of May, which happens to be Brain Cancer Awareness Month.  St. John’s is one of the collection sites.  We are looking for books for preschool age through young adult.  If you are able to help, please drop donations in the bin marked Grandmas Gamblers in the narthex.  Last year we collected a total of 1000 books that went to three hospitals in the Chicagoland area.  Coffee Hour is also donating the month of May collections to our cause as well.  We are “Betting on comfort and winning with love.”
