Sunday Mornings - Children, Youth and Adult Studies

On any given Sunday at St. John’s there are more than 100 children and adults gathering together to pray, study the Bible, share their faith stories with each other, and encourage one another in building up their gifts for Christian ministry. It happens during our education hour (9:25a-10:25a)and is an extension of our corporate worship together.

New Member Class
Our new comers class introduces people from various backgrounds in their faith journey to the basic teachings of our common Christian faith, to some of the distinctive teachings of Lutherans, and to the mission and ministry of St. John's. Lunch and child care are provided. Call ext. 210 to enroll in the next class.

Education Hour
Every Sunday morning we offer three to five classes for adult study and conversation around the word of God during our educational hour (9:25 to 10:25), where there are opportunities for the whole family to gather in groups for study, prayer and encouragement. Each is structured so that newcomers/visitors may join or try them out at any time in the cycle of the class curriculum.

We arrange our classes in a variety of settings and disciplines of study to help offer variety and connect with personal needs. There are four basic approaches to Christian studies (Biblical, Topical, Historical, Missional). While they all intersect around the living and active connections with the word of God, each discipline helps prepare us for living our faith in different ways.

Adult Classes During the Educational Hour
Our adult education hour includes several sessions to choose from, such as:

  • I & II Corinthians: Biblical Wisdom for 21st Century Christians
  • Troubled Minds: Responding to Mental Illness
  • An Overview of the Gospel of Mark

"My life has transformed since participating in Bible Studies. (Sunday Adult Studies as well as Group Studies) since then my faith has increased tremendously. Hearing others talk about their faith and their struggles encourages me.

I trust so much more in the Lord. I know I am not in control, but I am calm, and know that God has a plan for me and that he will lead me and I am confident and will follow Him.

Where I had many fears, I have a new perspective on how to serve the Lord and be a part of His Kingdom." ~ Bobbie (Adult Bible Classes)

"When I am in the word daily, I feel God’s presence. I have an easier time resisting temptation and discerning His will. Reading daily doesn’t have to be doggedly endured. There are fresh new ways to do it. I can be on autopilot and it allows God to be in charge. With Him in charge, it gives Him the glory. Our genuine act of worship is giving God all the glory. It’s not from within me, it’s from God." ~Pete – Adult Studies/Bible in a Year

I started small groups because I was invited. That simple gesture has led to making connections and starting other new small groups. I am open to meeting new people and seeing the resources God has given us with people and we get to see how He works in our lives. People can be threatened by church. Small groups are ...
