Let the Light of Your Faith Shine

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead' (James 2:26).

We know that there is nothing we can do to earn a place in heaven. We only need to believe, God does the rest. But if we fail to live as He tells us, by being an example of Jesus here on earth, we are missing a part of our faith. We are called in the great commission to go and make disciples - what better way than to live your faith and let others see what Jesus is doing in your life.

I have been blessed to be able to make several trips over the years both with youth and adults to go and serve those in need. These trips were not ones where I was doing the work on my own, but where God was working through me to help others and where my faith in Him was performing the tasks that were needed. Sure, I could have just gone along and said that I know how to swing a hammer or use a saw and I can fix this and that, but what good would that have been? It would have made the repairs to the material property, but not the healing to the heart of those that were hurting, and certainly not have built on my faith. No, if you just keep your faith to yourself, you are not doing what Jesus had asked and you are not helping to spread the kingdom.

As we look at the events of this week and we mourn the death of Jesus, we know that greater things are ahead in the celebration of His resurrection! As the line in the song, "This Little Gospel Light of Mine" says no to hiding it under a bushel, we too need to let our faith shine in the works we do, so others see Jesus through what we do and not just what we say! Mark 5:16 quotes Jesus' words, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Where is your gospel light? Don't hide it; let it shine with your faith in all you do, knowing that what we do is to God's glory and because of his many blessings poured out on us!

Dear Father in heaven, we know that all things come from You and we are here as Your instruments. Help us to live our faith by helping others and planting the seeds of faith in their hearts, so that the Spirit can water them and make them grow. In Jesusí precious name! Amen.

Gary Mayor
